Trump says US Navy acting like ‘pirates’ against Iranian ports

US President Donald Trump has said that the US Navy is acting like “pirates” in its operations targeting Iranian ports, according to international news agencies.
In his statement regarding rising tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran, Trump claimed that American naval forces are seizing Iranian ships, cargo, and oil. He described the situation as highly profitable, saying, “We are taking Iran’s ships, cargo and oil. It is a very profitable business. We are like pirates, but we are not playing games.”
His remarks come amid increasing tensions in the region, where naval activity has intensified and maritime security has become a major point of confrontation between Iran and the United States.
According to reports, the US Navy has recently detained some Iranian vessels in Asian waters, further escalating diplomatic tensions. Iran has strongly condemned these actions and has filed an official complaint with the United Nations Security Council, demanding the release of its seized ships.
Indian firm accused of bypassing US sanctions via Iran trade
Tehran has argued that the US actions violate international maritime laws and are intended to increase pressure on Iran. Iranian officials have called for global intervention to stop what they describe as unlawful seizures of their vessels.
The situation highlights growing friction in strategic sea routes that are critical for global oil and cargo transportation. Analysts warn that continued escalation could disrupt international trade and energy supplies, as a significant portion of global oil passes through these waterways.
The US administration, however, maintains that its actions are part of broader security enforcement measures aimed at countering Iranian maritime activities and protecting regional stability.
Trump’s unusually direct comments have drawn global attention, adding further complexity to already strained US-Iran relations and raising concerns about potential further escalation in the region.
